wellyphoto02.gifWellington is absolutely, positively delicious. The Downtown area has more than 400 restaurants, cafes and bars offering something to suit every palate.

Enjoy the charismatic character of Boulcott St Bistro, the outstanding cuisine at Logan Brown, the intimacy of long-standing top restaurant Roxburgh and some of New Zealand’s best Italian food at Maria Pia’s Trattoria.

Wellington is a cosmopolitan city and this is reflected in its cuisine. Middle Eastern kebab cafes rub shoulders with traditional French restaurants, funky Asian noodle houses sit alongside Spanish tapas bars.

Try modern Asian at Chow, or innovative Thai at Anise. Kopi has some of the best Malaysian in town, while Café Siem Reap is an undiscovered Cambodian gem. Fiery curry houses such as Great India and Masala are tempered by the heat of wasabi-spiked Japanese restaurants Kazu and Miyabi Sushi.

Wellington has a proud wine culture. Vivo, tucked into a hidden part of the Willis Quarter, has an extensive international wine list matched with Italian style tasting plates. Arbitrageur is another restaurant dedicated to fine wine. Its menu is wholly European, but its wine list draws on all the world’s best wines.

Coffee is big business in Wellington and that’s great news for caffine addicts. Many cafes, such as Astoria and Caffe L’Affare, roast their beans on the premises…just follow your nose.
